“Awit ko, Handong mo, Alay natin” Launched

The Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion were so touched by the theme of the Papal visit early this year. He was very much concerned with the plight of the poor and the suffering. He said in his homily in Manila cathedral: “The POOR is the center of the gospel, and the heart of the gospel. If we take away the poor from the gospel we cannot understand the whole message of Jesus Christ”.  The Church in the Philippines also declared that this year 2015 is Year of the Poor.
The Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion (EMHC) Family of Sta. Teresita Parish were all challenged by the urgent call of  Pope Francis and the Church in the Philippines to do something for the sick and elderly people whom they are ministering. They are faithfully bringing Holy communion to them every Sunday. The all-men members of this ministry launched “AWIT KO, HANDONG MO, ALAY NATIN”.  This was a Christmas Caroling activity last December. With the money they received, they were able to buy simple gifts as token of their love in this holy season of celebrating Christ’s birth.
They packed assorted grocery items and some items for personal care. Thirteen sick and elderly were selected to be beneficiaries of the gifts while others were given poster of Pope Francis. But the priceless gifts to all of them were the prayer service we conducted. We prayed as one family to obtain peace of mind, healthy body and soul, love for one another and harmony in their family.  Once again the members of the EMHC were very happy for the success of this activity.  This simple gesture of mercy and compassion brought them a lot of joy.
