Kasalang Bayan (Mass Wedding) 2014

Published by Linda E. Igna in News Update · 27/10/2014 09:37:54

In Genesis 2:13, God enacted the first social foundation for mankind and the Lord God said, “It’s not good that man should be alone.  I will make him a helper comparable to him.”  It was therefore willed by God that a man and a woman be united and that they are no longer two but one. So on October 24, 2014, Saturday at 9:00 a.m., Rev. Fr. Richard Magararu, SMM, officiated the wedding of the five (5) couples as they walked down the aisle of Sta. Teresita Parish Church in acceptance to God’s plan for humanity.

Prior to this event, these couples went through the process of completing their requirements and beating the last day of submission of the required documents.  In preparation for a Christ - centered life, they attended the Pre-Cana Seminar of the parish wherein they learned about marriage being a sacrament and a covenant, the roles of a Christian husband/wife, sexuality, parenting, responsible parenthood and natural family planning.  This seminar also aims to help them handle conflicts and be able to understand their mission and responsibility as Christian married couples.

This event, aptly called “Kasalang Bayan,” (mass wedding) was in collaboration with Barangay West Rembo headed by Chairwoman Judith Baquiran-Cellos and her Council, with this being their sixth (6) year of sponsorship.  The goal of this is to extend help to the Catholics who are already living together or civilly married wishing to avail of the sacrament of Matrimony without much expense.  They are only to pay the fees to obtain the necessary documents.

Following the ceremony, the couples along with their families and guests, were led to the barangay hall for the reception, complete with the traditional program of cake slicing and tasting, and wine toasting.  They were also treated to a wedding pictorial and gift souvenirs.  Everyone went home satisfied and thankful.

To all who shared their support for the success of this special event, the smile and joy on the faces of the newlyweds are enough in exchange for the effort extended.

Marriage is both a blessing and a gift from God.  It is unique, for a reason.
